It has an extensive network of clinic al and health promotion services\, along with an international programmes unit that works across the Pacific. The organisation was established in New Zealand in 1936\, primarily to advocate for better access to contrace ption. Jackie Edmond has been Chief Executive of Family Planning since September 2006. With a professional background in psychiatric nursing and health management\, her working career has been entirely in the health s ector. She is the public and media face of the organisation as an advocat e for improved access to sexual and reproductive health services both her e and across the Pacific. Jackie has been on many government delegation s in the Pacific and with the United Nations. She is the Deputy Chair of the Council for International Development Board and is on the Steering Co mmittee for the upcoming International Conference on Population Developme nt to be held in Nairobi in November 2019. Jackie will talk briefly abo ut the history of Family Planning and about why New Zealand’s abortion la w should be reformed.
