Russian/Ukraine Geopolitics
Jun 14, 2022
Putin's War
What has motivated Russia's leaders throughout history? What does President Putin hope to achieve by invading Ukraine? Is the war becoming "Russia's Vietnam" or "Russia's Afghanistan"? What can the West do, and what price will we Western citizens pay, to support Ukraine and push Putin back? These issues will be addressed by Associate Professor Stephen Hoadley from The University of Auckland. Stephen is a veteran academic, author, and media commentator on international affairs. Originally from the US, he is now a NZ citizen. He has served in the US Navy and is now an Honorary Captain in the Royal New Zealand Navy.

Aug 16, 2022
While working at DOC as biodiversity and biosecurity supervisor I managed post pest eradication reptile monitoring project on Rangitoto, Motutapu and Motuihe islands and was actively involved in all bird (takahe, kiwi, saddleback, shore plover, NZ dotterel etc.) and reptile protection and restoration projects. My activities were focused mostly on the mainland. Incursion response and prevention of establishment of unwanted birds (e.g. – rainbow lorikeet and red-vented bulbul); amphibians (cane toad, axolotl) and reptiles (red-eared slider turtle etc.) was my main project for a number of years. My current role in NZDF is predominantly biosecurity and pest (plant and animal) control at all NZDF sites such as military training areas at Whangaparaoa, south Kaipara, Ardmore and other ones in Auckland region. It also involves revegetation/restoration in some of those areas. We work in close collaboration with our neighbours and have joint projects with Auckland Council, Department of Conservation and local communities. |
