Auckland City gets a Rotary Clean-Up
Wednesday 22 April was Earth Day so the Downtown Rotary Environment team headed to the Britomart area, armed with rubbish bags, gloves and even a "grabber" thanks to Graham. Partnering up, they set off to pick up whatever rubbish they could find.
Before long, bags were full with cans, bottles, food wrappers and the odd unpleasant surpise. Feeling rightfully pleased with their efforts, they finished with a well-earned coffee and chat in Commercial Bay.
On Sunday 4 May we are travelling to Motuihe Island to take part in an endangered plants day - lots of planting in the soil & work in the nursery for those that prefer an indoor job. The ferry will leave from Okahu Bay - more details to come on leaving and returning times. This will be a great day out , organised by our Environment Committee to support the Motuihe Trust.
Our recent survey results indicated that members enjoy the Northern Club as our meeting venue but not the breakfast! With rising costs looming, the Board is currently looking at several food options. Our annual collection for local food banks is happening over the next few weeks and we need your help!
It's very easy and YOU CAN DO IT! All you need to do is to bring two cans of anything edible to the next Tuesday club meeting you attend. All cans will be collected by our Community Committee members, then delivered to local charities supporting those facing food insecurity, including the Auckland City Mission.
Rotary Clubs throughout NZ started "Can for a Cause" in 2025, determined to help in any way, the Kiwi families finding it tough to put food on the table.
This is a quick update to acknowledge our wonderful club members who have been in Fiji visiting existing and exploring new project opportunities.
Dee Lodhia, Mark & Margaret Jenkins and John Boscawen have teamed up with the Rotary Clubs in Suva, visiting the Suva Gospel School for Deaf, Frank Hilton Special School, Suva CWM Hospital and the Sth Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Fiji Head Office to name just a few of many engagements.
We look forward to sharing more photos, stories and future plans.

Here's a great update from Suzanne after the Environment Committee came together last Sunday to build a Gardens in Schools frame:
"Sunday morning and a gorgeous day in Auckland for a bit of handyman and woman work. There are more schools that want raised gardens and each of these takes a bit of work to cut the sleepers to the right length and drill the holes in the right place prior to transporting them to the school and assembling. Equipped with Mike and Chris’ impressive array of power tools, a small group set to work on Pam and Alan Deal’s driveway. Alla had the measuring sorted out and a few hours later another garden was ready to go. Greg will swing by and pick it up and enlist some others to assemble at St Michael’s School later in the week."
