Behind the Shelf: Leadership, Supply Chains, and the Hidden Cost of Getting Goods to Market

Every product on a shelf is the end point of a long, largely invisible chain of decisions — who made it, under what conditions, and at what human cost. Lyle Brady, Group Chief Supply Chain Officer at The Warehouse Group, takes Rotary behind the shelf into the machinery that moves goods across the country and around the world. Drawing on two decades leading supply chains across Africa, the US and New Zealand, he explores what it takes to lead a large operation well, the pressures reshaping retail supply chains today, and why supply chain leadership is ultimately a test of judgment, not logistics. Along the way he confronts one of the industry's most uncomfortable questions: what is "modern slavery," how does it hide inside global supply chains, and is New Zealand legislation about to change what businesses here are required to do about it?

He holds an Honours degree in accounting (BCompt Hons) and is a Chartered member of the Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS). He lives in Auckland.
