On Tuesday morning, we were very lucky to have Auckland City Police District Commander Superintendent Karyn Malthus join us for breakfast.
Superintendent Malthus shared her background and how she rose to her current role, including a discussion on the expansive breadth of the role. Many thanks Superintendent Malthus for these great insights.
We were also joined by Catherine Tutagalevao, Gardenia Salatielu and Perez Afualo from Auckland Girls Grammar School (AGGS) who plan on joining the Police when they finish school. They were also joined in attendance by Principal Ngaire Ashmore and Gateway Coordinator & Careers Support Administrator Susanna Sabbage. Great having you join us AGGS team - you're welcome back anytime.
KiwiHarvest is one of the social causes that the club supports, and we were excited to be joined by CEO Gavin Findlay on Tuesday.
Gavin gave an overview of the work done by KiwiHarvest in collecting good food before it goes to waste and distributing it to those in need. Great insights Gavin and we look forward to working with you over the coming period.
Matthew Orange stepped up the game for sergeant sessions to a whole new level on Tuesday.
Matthew had specially trained himself to perform card magic for this session, and with the help of Elaine Ebbett, performed the trick in front of a live studio audience for the first time to raise money for the Sunshine Fund. Great stuff Matthew and very well executed.
Ronald McDonald House Cook Nights are great events that our club supports, not only as a hands on activity but also by providing some of the ingredients.
Tim Orr ran an auction on Tuesday morning to raise funds to support the Cook Night - putting up a special contribution from his personal cellar. Well done Tim on an excellent auction.
Many thanks to Kat Trevor for this great idea and for driving our activities at the Ronald McDonald House Cook Nights.
Club member Elaine Ebbett has been volunteering over recent months in Northland, supporting local schools with book donations.
In the past month, Elaine delivered to eight Northland primary schools about 1,000 new and used books donated by various people. Great stuff Elaine, exciting to see the contribution you're making up North.
Rotary International acknowledged our club members' donations toward global Polio eradication.
Club members collectively donated $3,000 to the global Polio eradication campaign for the 2018/2019 year, adding to the annual donations made by members in previous years.
The certificate from Rotary International was awarded by 2018/2019 Club President Lucy Chang-Lorenzi to Wayne Dyer, Club Foundation Director for that period.
