All
This week I met with Heida to bid her farewell and reiterate that our door is always open.
Ironically, the departure of a member left me reflecting on what it means to be inside a club as opposed to outside.
I think that people join clubs because they feel it’s an effective way of achieving a higher purpose - service, fellowship, leadership, personal growth – the list goes on.
However, I would guess that there are many people around the world who you look up to as living up to a standard, who are not in a club. You know, they simply just ‘are’.
So, can you personally become that to which you aspire without being in a club?
I think the answer to that is yes.
Living up to that standard is embodied through actions, in thoughts, by words, and sometimes, even, by silence. In that light, a registration form isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.
So certainly, it’s not necessary to be in a club to achieve your potential, whatever that might be.
However, it is nice to have friends around to come along the journey with you.
This week’s highlights
Bruce Turner @ Breakfast
Bruce – as Director of Central Portfolio Management at Fonterra – gave us some deep insights into the relationship between dairy production and pricing. Given the role that dairy plays in our economy, this was a critically important topic. Thank you Bruce for sharing your extensive knowledge with us.
District Award for Innovation
To celebrate the end of the June 2019 Rotary year, our club was presented with an award for club innovation by District Governor Ingrid Waugh. This was to acknowledge the work put into implementing a cause-based structure, instead of relying on the traditional Rotary format. Gill Johnston received the award on behalf of the club at district changeover, and on Tuesday presented it to Lucy, Steve and Byran.
Sunshine Fund
On Tuesday, Suzanne spoke to the purpose of the Sunshine Fund and had some examples of the young people who have benefited from our support. Thank you Suzanne, and we look forward to continuing our support for the fund through Tim Orr’s role as lead Sergeant, supported by James Hook, Susan Benedek and Matthew Orange.
