Club Camp @ Greg's Farm
Greg Moyle hosted a club camp with Rotaractors and Rylarians at his farm in Mangatarata - about 1 hour outside of Auckland - this weekend.
In addition to Greg, for the club participants included Susan Benedek, James Hook and Byran Theunisen. Pam and Alan Deal also joined for the day on Saturday.

We were also joined by Rotaractors and Rylarians Rumbie, Bogdan, Bella, Ariana, Mehak, Mariam, Sarah and Sheetul.

It was a weekend full of BBQs, sun, farm site-seeing, jenga, cake and a bonfire. The team also chipped in to help out around the farm.

A great time was had by all, and a special thanks to Susan for organising and Greg for hosting.

RYLA Graduate Jolene Muir
Jolene Muir, one of our recent Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) graduates, joined us for breakfast on Tuesday to share what she's been up to, having recently completed an internship at the United Nations.
Jolene shared some amazing stories about the kind of work she was doing at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and the high profile global leaders that she encountered.

It was great re-connecting with Jolene again and we can't wait to hear from her again in the future about the next step in her journey.

Rotary Youth Exchange - Bella Sinclair
Our 2020 outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student, Bella Sinclair, joined us for breakfast on Tuesday to talk about her upcoming trip to Austria.
It was great hearing from her and we know she will have a great time on her exchange. We were also excited to present her with her Rotary Youth Exchange blazer and hoodie, and to wish her well as she prepares for her big adventure.

Bella was joined by mum Delwyn and sister Laura - our prior outbound exchange student.

Dr Hiran Thabrew @ Breakfast
On Tuesday, Dr Hiran Thabrew of Auckland University joined us to talk about his research into Child and Adolescent Mental Health. We were very excited to host him as this is one of the social causes that our club supports.
Hiran shared excellent insights into the research that he and his team have been doing, and how they plan to continue their highly impactful work. Hiran was joined on the morning by fellow team members Dr Karolina Stasiak and Dr Sarah Hopkins. We were also lucky to have as our guests representatives from Perpetual Guardian - who sponsor the travel costs of visiting scholars for this research - Gail Stevens and Dr Ron Goodey.

Many thanks to the club's Child & Adolescent Mental Health Committee - led by Graham Hendry - for their excellent work in supporting Hiran and this cause.

Kerryn “Rides Shotgun” for Kiwi Harvest
For some time we’ve had a standing invitation to join the Kiwi Harvest team on one of their pick up and delivery runs. The aim of “Riding Shotgun” (as they call it)  is to learn a bit more about Kiwi Harvest and experience the “feel good factor” as good nourishing food gets delivered to those who need it. Kerryn Downey, volunteered to “Ride Shotgun” on Friday and here are his comments and the photos:
“The day began at 7.30am and we returned to base about 2.30pm.

At one point we doubted we had sufficient room in the truck as the Countdown in Mt Eden had about 40 crates of mixed up fruit and vegetables. It took us a while sorting and repacking this very generous donation for subsequent deliveries.

Its hard work but it does give one an excellent experience and its very rewarding to see the joy on some of the faces of the recipients.”

Some members of the Club’s Kiwi Harvest team have also volunteered but the opportunity is there for anyone else to join in.

If you fancy “Riding Shotgun”  please let Keith Robinson know and we can arrange it.

If you fancy volunteering with other tasks please visit the Kiwi Harvest website https://kiwiharvest.org.nz/
