All

This evening, the club's Board of Directors met by conference call and together we set out a strategy for the ongoing COVID-19 situation, particularly in light of the Prime Minister's announcement that the country will be going to Alert Level 4 from 11.59 PM on Wednesday.

Over this period, to maintain togetherness and look after each and every club member, we will be undertaking the following:

1. A framework whereby each club member will be contacted regularly to ensure they are ok and, if they need support, that this can be provided by the club. Eg. getting access to groceries. There will be a group of club members assigned to co-ordinate this. Also, if you know of someone that needs similar support in the community, you can share this with the co-ordinating group. While the group is being established, you can send their details to me.

2. Using social media, namely, Facebook and Instagram, as a platform to provide regular updates on what club members are up to. This will include providing short profiles on our recently joined members. If you don't use Facebook or Instagram, don't worry, we'll be circulating instructions on how to register an account. Some members may prefer not to use social media. Accordingly, this weekly newsletter will still continue uninterrupted and we will share these members' updates through this medium as well.

3. Trialling a 'virtual happy hour'. At 5.30 on weekdays we will have a virtual hangout where people can get together in an online forum and have a drink (or two) together. Once the link for logging in is setup this will be circulated.

Over the coming period, expect further communications on the above as we roll this out. We've already started some of this tonight - see the update from Kat & Gareth about their wedding in the Stories section below.

Even though we are in unchartered territory, if we stick to the basics of what makes our club special - fellowship & friendship - and we look after each other, we'll come through just fine.

Stay safe

Kat & Gareth's Wedding
This weekend, Kat and Gareth celebrated their wedding and we are lucky to have these great photos from the event.

The beautiful venue was graciously provided by Mark and Margaret Jenkins.

Also, Gill Johnston served as celebrant, and Tim Orr as ring bearer.

Congratulations Kat and Gareth from the whole club, we are all very excited for you.

Night Emergency Shelter - Jo Wickliffe
On Tuesday morning, we were fortunate to have barrister Jo Wickliffe speak at the club about The Night Emergency Trust (NEST) project.

Many people think Auckland has a night shelter, though it doesn't.

NEST aims to provide short term accommodation to those who would otherwise be homeless in Auckland, and would act as a complement to other services provided by Auckland City Mission.

Jo provided insights into the premises and operational plans which form the basis of the NEST project, and the next steps in getting the project off the ground.

Thanks Jo for sharing your insights with us - greatly appreciated.
