Happy November Everyone!

October was an especially busy month for several of us. Many thanks to Past President Wayne for hosting this week's meeting while I was sitting a 3-hour Statistics exam.

Our guest speaker was Mike Bishop - a highly successful CEO of two Provincial Rugby Unions for over 18 years. Mike gave a very entertaining talk on his personal experiences as a sportsman in NZ and England and as a sports administrator for many years. One of the remarkable things about Mike is that he achieved so much while having lived a lifetime with celebral palsy.

Our 5minute speaker- Past President Mark Jenkins shared his tales of adventures on the Wainwright Coast to Coast starting at Saint Bees and ending in Robin Hood's Bay through Cumbria and Yorkshire. Its amazing how many of our members (Gaye and Bill included) are in such fit condition to walk these tremendous distances!

Speaking of fit members, congratulations to Rob and Joanne Wills, Dan Turkel and Kat & Gareth for finishing different race distances in the Auckland Marathon!

Please note, no meeting next week because of Melbourne Cup which will be held at Sheila's place on 6th November 4pm. Also, please mark your calendars for our last fundraising dinner of the year, 21st November 6:30pm with Nadia Lim.

One final note since Christmas is just around the corner (yes- it's soon upon us!!) - David Graham has shared with us some information about the "Christmas Box" project (http://www.christmasbox.co.nz). The organisation packs and distributes Christmas packages/food to families in need. The organisation has "Packing Days" from 6-8th December where volunteers gather at Highbrook warehouse to do the packing. There also is an option to donate $30 for each box. If you are interested to learn more, please contact David or me.
