A great presentation by Kristin about her road to becoming a professional opera singer and the challenges this entailed. We were also fortunate enough to have a demonstration from Kristin. Amazing, thank you Kristin.
Club Changeover
100 guests came along to celebrate Lucy’s year and help kick off mine at the Fale Pasifika at Auckland University. This included 20 students from our partner school, Auckland Girls Grammar, who performed a variety of traditional song and dance sets. These performances were amazing and we were very fortunate to have the students support us on the evening.
Awards
At Changeover, Lucy made the following awards:
Steve Briggs & Byran Theunisen - Certificates of recognition for thought leadership & support in helping with the STAR Process and implementing the new Social Cause Structure.
Graham Hendry - Certificate of recognition for his leadership of the reception team and operations which allows us to keep our meetings running smoothly. Also, a Paul Harris Fellowship to recognise his dedication, passion and leadership as our Champion for Child & Adolescent Mental Health. He has developed and fostered a strong relationship with the researchers and practitioners at University of Auckland School of Psychiatric Medicine over the last decade and which he continues to lead with commitment while ensuring there is a succession plan to ensure future members understand the reasons why it’s so important that we continue to support this important Cause.
Mal McLennan - a two saphire Paul Harris Fellowship for bringing to life the saying “Be the inspiration and leave a legacy that lives beyond each of us” through his drive to help us raise an additional $102,000 for our Club Trust.
John Boscawen - The inaugural President's Award, for his generosity and ongoing financial support & commitment to numerous Causes (Youth, KiwiHarvest, Child & Adolescent Mental Health amongst others).
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award)
This year’s RYLA kicked off last Saturday morning with several members helping out in picking up and dropping off RYLArians. Our club had 26 RYLArians attending, making us the largest contributing club this year. A great result and a testament to the leadership of Suzanne and Heather. Members also supported RYLA by attending the dinner to celebrate the achievements over the six days, and by picking up the RYLArians from the campgrounds. A big shout out to Hilary Prior for again putting in a huge effort at RYLA all week.
Working on the farm
Thanks to Greg for heading up to his farm last weekend to do some weeding, clearing and fertilising for the fruit and vege sold at the club to raise funds for the Raised Gardens in Schools program. I had the privilege of joining Greg and it was a blast.
Trees for Survival
This week we received a great note from Remuera Intermediate thanking us for our recent work – paraphrased below:
“I wanted to say a huge thank you to Chris, Ray and Daniel for all their help on the day. We were also joined by two young men for Remuera New World and appreciated their help. Again Downtown Rotary's and Remuera New Worlds continued support is very much valued and appreciated.”
Awesome – great work all round.
Battle of the Suits
Recently the third celebrity debate team member, David Downs, has been confirmed. A great outcome. Furthermore, McDonalds have also come onboard as a sponsor, another excellent addition to the event. Winning stuff Gill, David, Mark, and Christine.
