The Trusts Act 2019 represents the most extensive and wide ranging change to trust law in New Zealand in the last 50 years and it will come in to effect in January 2021. All Trustees are required to engage in an extensive disclosure regime to beneficiaries and are subject to significant obligations. Many members of Downtown Rotary Club are likely to have been Settlors, Beneficiaries or Trustees of at least one or more trusts and this presentation is intended to be a practical guide to this important piece of legislation.
